since i last updated...
- our house was broken into while i was home, leaving cole without a computer. (i am actually writing this update from my old ibook, which i had to buy a new powerchord for in an attempt to get it running for him as a temporary solution.)
- we adopted a dog, a west highland terrier + poodle mix we named butters. she was a heart worm positive stray at our local shelter, town lake animal center. she's pretty much the best dog ever!
- cole's band is on hiatus while most of the members are pursuing other adventures. the singer is doing art in nyc. the second guitarist is in film school in san francisco. the bassist moved back to arizona to start a recording studio with his brother (who i think is signed to warner brothers and was formerly on geffen). the drummer is on tour with his other band, legswepper, and is doing really well with that project. BUT they are working on a full length to be recorded this spring. and they are going to be playing shows during sxsw again.
- cole is also playing in a new band, a drastically different band. they haven't played any shows yet. i haven't heard any songs yet. and i don't really know the members. sooooo...

monday night, my boyfriend's band the united snakes of america played a free show at a local venue on red river. it was the first time i had seen them since the house party during sxsw. it was the first time i had shot one of their shows.

i miss band photography, specifically concert photography, a lot. as i told my boyfriend on tuesday morning, there's a sense of sport in shooting an event where you have little to no control of your subjects. you have to observe each person's mannerisms, learning to predict their movements and as a result be able to set up your shots. you have to overcome space limitations, work around crowds, and frequently adapt to poor club lighting. and you may get the most ideal shot set up, only to have one person move one inch and everything is gone. it's a thrilling gamble. and pulling off some good shots offers up so much reward and joy.

my boyfriend's band plays their first show tomorrow in austin, texas.

additionally, they put up their four song ep on their myspace page on monday. since then, they have been offered a spot on a short summer tour, talked to by an independent record label, and talked about on an online music messageboard (with ONLY positive buzz as of this morning).

- it's now TWO months after the christmas holidays and i really should get on top of mailing out thank you notes. they're sitting inbetween the front seats of my car, in that little place that seems to collect napkins, change, and the occasional ticket. they're written and have been written for weeks. but they are stuck in a thank you note purgatory, neither here nor there.

- i've been putting off mailing the thank you notes primarily because i am dreading someone finding out that their package to me never arrived. i've asked the office staff to thoroughly check the package room, going through every package to make sure it wasn't miss placed.

- though i didn't mail out thank you notes, i did: buy toilet paper (as there has been a shortage in the apartment), watch 90210 while painting my toe nails a crazy shade of coral for the spring, listen to A LOT of stevie wonder, and go to work.

- @ work we're doing this big project of sizing the dresses because we are all very, very tired of explaining that vintage sizes vary from decade to decade. there's a huge difference between a 60's size 12, an 80's size 12, and a size 12 of today. so we are measuring the bust, waist, and hips of every item in the store (and eventually every item in backstock).

- i wore shorts and sandals today and STILL was sweaty. OH TEXAS!

- i am looking forward to NOT taking allergy medicine soon. it is almost the end of pollination for the trees that affect me. yay!

i once asked my boss how she maintains such a fashion friendly frame, being able to easily fit into 40's outfits when she does not have the unfortunate habit of smoking that most 40's women had. it's true, she's vegan and as a result isn't consuming high calorie dairy products like cheeses. and she also doesn't drink alcohol, so she doesn't have to worry about beer bloat and late night greasy cravings. but she plainly said, "the more energy i put into work, the smaller i get."

the past few weeks, i've shed a lot of weight, losing over an inch on my waistline, hips, and biceps. and it is, without a doubt, a result of the energy i am putting into work.

i haven't had much time to write updates. and unfortunately, this isn't really a spare moment either.
